Jesus Christ (a title meaning "Messiah") is the promised deliverer and savior for ancient Israel and the rest of us. He lived 2,000 years ago. His family were once refugees in Egypt for a time-as there was a wicked king who plotted to kill Him. Once this king died, His family settled in a small town in a region we now call Israel/Palestine. He grew up on the wrong side of town, went around healing, feeding and loving people who were powerless. He believed those who are the greatest, should be seen as servants-essentially reversing what power looks like! He allowed Himself to be arrested and unjustly charged with a crime-even though He was innocent. At the prodding of corrupt religious leadership, government officials declared him worthy of death and the police eventually killed Him. He said His life had to end this way. The Son of God (another title He called Himself) allowed violence to overtake Him. Innocent blood was shed. When the time was right-He threw off the chains of death and rose from the dead. He lives! His life has created an opportunity for us to become "new humans." We have been given a chance to live a life of purpose and joy. We believe our key to meaning and fulfillment is tied to Him.
